Woman Killed After Being Struck By Car, SUV On Long Island Roadway

A woman was killed after being struck by both a car and an SUV on a Long Island roadway.

It happened just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in Freeport.

The victim, a 77-year-old whose identity has not yet been released, was crossing Merrick Road near South Main Street when she was hit by a 2018 Honda Accord traveling eastbound, according to Nassau County Police.

The driver of the Accord, a 26-year-old man. stayed at the scene of the accident.

Shortly after, a 2020 Dodge Durango traveling southbound on Main Street also struck the pedestrian. 

The Durango driver, a 39-year-old woman, also remained at the scene. 

The pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the hospital staff.

The investigation is ongoing.
